NPPA: BEST OF PHOTOJOURNALISM 2010

Exciting News! It appears that I have been fortunate enough to earn an Honorable Mention in this year's NPPA: Best of Photojournalism competition.

My photo story, Airscapes: United Arab Emirates, focused on the UAE's impending water issues

Currently, the United Arab Emirates has one of the highest water consumption levels in the world per capita due to the stark desert climate and recent population boom. Rapid growth in the hotel, agriculture and construction sectors have multiplied the number of labor camps and residential buildings, severely increasing the demand for water. Groundwater reserves are projected to run out within 20 to 40 years. The following essay is a collection of aerial images illustrating the arid yet ever-changing topography of the UAE.

Visit the contest's website to view more of the winners. Judging is currently ongoing so more winners will be announced throughout the week. Good luck to those of you with work yet to be judged.

Special thanks to my wife Jasmine & friend Matt Eich. Both helped with editing the series and encouraged me to enter the work in this year's contest.
